I wanted ultralight. I got ultralight. I expected to do a little more suffering in exchange, but it hasn't worked out that way. This bag delivers. Nine nights out so far, most of them near freezing or slightly below, and I've slept comfortably -- all but on one blustery night when I got a little chilly by morning. Most nights in a floorless single-wall pyramid shelter. A couple nights just "out". Frost on the bag one morning, which didn't cause any problems. The bag design is super comfortable for me. (5'9" and lean in a Regular) I'm a side sleeper and it moves with me just fine. The hood feels great and despite no neck baffle, there's plenty of material to seal out drafts. I thought ultralight might mean a crappy zipper, but the zipper's robust and works fine. The fabric is whisper light, and I was worried about durability as I often camp with a Jack Russell Terrier who isn't exactly a delicate beast. I have tried to be a bit careful with it around him; so far, neither a mar nor a leaked down plume. I like the cheery yellow color, too, which is slightly more muted in person. The DriDown? The best thing about it for me is that it finally convinced me to get a down bag. So I'm obviously no expert on down bags. But I am impressed. The down is amazingly puffy and light, and I think the light fabric works well with the down to allow it loft with little restriction. Every time I unpack it, I'm surprised at how much loft it has and at just how gossamer light it feels. And it packs down to much smaller than the included stuff sack, which is pretty small. The Dri part? I haven't gotten it wet and will keep trying to make sure it stays dry when I'm out there. But I like knowing that if/when it does get moist, the DriDown is going to help. Quibbles: No hang tab near the foot to help hang it out. But hey, it's ultralight. And the storage sack is mesh, which doesn't keep dirt out.

What more can you say about this bag? It is flat out stellar… there is, from a technology perspective, nothing more that can be done to this bag to make it lighter, loftier, more moisture tolerant than what has been developed. True to its temperature rating. And Dri-Down, maybe the most important development in sleeping bags since the incorporation of nylon, plastic zippers, or down itself. The overall effectiveness of the Dri-Down technology was absolutely superb! As a person who tends to sleep on the clammy side, this technology is absolutely remarkable. Normally, when I wake from a night in a sleeping bag, I can sense a bit of loss in loft. This is not the case with the Cal 30 Dri-Down. In the long run, I can sense this bag holding its longevity much longer through better loft retention, resulting in fewer needed cleanings, resulting in the down holding its structural integrity longer.
