Sierra Designs 60/40 Short Parka | USA Heritage Collection

First introduced in 1968, the original Sierra Designs 60/40 Jacket changed the world of outdoor recreation forever.  A proprietary mix of cotton (60%) and nylon (40%) allowed the 60/40 Jacket to blend breathability with weather protection to produce the best performing jacket yet created.  Almost overnight, this iconic piece of apparel set the standard for serious outdoor enthusiasts.

As a celebration of this revolutionary piece of outdoor apparel, Sierra Designs is recreating the 60/40 line using the same designs and materials used in 1968. Just like its predecessor, the new 60/40 Parka is 100% made in the USA. Designed in Colorado and assembled in California from fabrics milled on the East Coast, the 60/40 Parka is truly a piece of American outdoor heritage and innovation.

1st one in 1974, used for everything--Appalachian trail, Bruce Trail, Ohio Buckeye Trail, Ely Minn Canoeing, Maine Outward Bound, wore it out by 1994, bought new, same color, navy blue, it is now by 2012 showing wear, and hoped to get a replacement, but to no avail until just recently when saw that you thankfully have produced them again, so have purchased one more to be in reserve until my 2nd one is completely shot, am 63 now and doubt I'll get 20 years on the 3rd but you never know, if so, just think, 60 years on one style of garment, through thick and thin!!

I got this jacket for my wife in 1977 and was very jealous. Now I have my own. This Parka stands out from all the wacky technical coats. I can wear this with a tie or enjoy a day hiking in the mountains. Quality throughout.

My new 60/40 Parka is like reuniting with a long lost old friend. I first owned one of these great parkas in the early 1970's. It was the 'go-anywhere' piece of outerwear for me. This new one is exactly like the old one...superb materials and workmanship, in a word: great!
