I have found the Wicked Hot 45 a great ultra-light summer bag. It is very thin, compressable, light and comfortable in warm summer evenings. That said, I have actually used it more as a climbing summer bivi bag. After doing some expirimantation, I will be using it at a winter over-bag. I think Sierra Designs is missing a marketing opportunity here. The internal girth of the bag is large enough that it fits comfortably over my 3-season down bag. I have never been a fan of laminate-shelled bags (i.e. Dry Loft etc.) for long winter trips or expedition use. They trap moisture inside the bag against the laminate where it freezes on the inside of the cold laminate before it can pass out, and ice and/or moisture builds up and slowly eliminates the bag's loft. Covering the bag with a thin especially synthetic bag eliminates moisture buildup in the inside down and keeps it in an outter layer where it is easier to manage/dry. Note that this problem only manifests itself on long trips or expeditions, especially in winter not on weekend outtings.
