I don't normally go to a website specifically to write a review, but after camping in this tent for three weeks in Patagonia I felt I had to, its that good. I recently returned from doing the TDP O circuit as well as a week in Fitzroy. The weather while in Torres del Paine was very Patagonia. Wind, rain and snow. I had used this tent for a year previously in the Pacific Northwest and was happy with it and knew it could handle bad weather, but when I got to TDP and saw all the heavy duty mountaineering tents that people had I thought uh oh, wonder if my little tent is up for this! On at least two nights there were winds sustained of >30mph with gusts of 40-50 from all directions in the campsite. With the tent completely guyed out, using all 11 pegs including the ones on the front pole (nope, it doesn't weigh 2lb 11oz when you add in the extra cord and extra pegs, more like 3.5 lb) but it is a bomb proof shelter. I didn't get a lot of sleep as I listened to the wind scream around me, but the tent was solid. At 5 foot 7 inches the tent is perfectly adequate for me and all my gear and with a few yoga moves I can get dressed inside. Love this tent.

I did a ton of research before pulling the trigger on this one and LOVE the tent! I wanted a very lightweight double-walled tent that packed up small, was quick to setup and takedown, and could withstand the forces of mother nature--the Light Year 1 fit the bill! It's not freestanding, but it only requires 2 stakes (3 with the fly on)--if you can't drive stakes in the ground, you can tie the 2 points to a rock, tree, etc. I'm 6'2 and 215 lbs, and could change inside the tent as well as keep some items with me inside. Keeping in mind that it's a one-man tent, there's plenty of room for extra clothing, flashlight, jacket, etc. inside at the bottom and top of the tent due to the tent shape. If you had a small pack (less than 40L), you could fit it in the tent by using it as a pillow or in the small vestibule, but again, it would need to be a small pack. I store my 68L pack in a black garbage bag just outside the tent and use the vestibule to protect my boots. If you're in bear country then none of this matters as you'll be hanging your pack from a tree.

I am 6'4" and fit in the Light Year 1 tent. This tent was used almost every night while I thru hiked the Appalachian Trail. The same tent will also be used almost every night as I thru hike the Pacific Crest Trail. If you want a good tent that will last a long time for a great price, buy the Light Year 1.

I've used this tent for 9 years and love it. Done several trips in the 80-240 mile range. It's a good size/weight and keeps water out well. I'm on here now to buy one for my son.

Just returned from Ozark Trail trip and my new Light Year 1 was great. It is my first one-person backpack tent, but my 6'5" body fit easily. Easy to put up and I can't wait to use it this summer without rainfly.
