Sierra Designs reestablishes pinnacle brand status with new for 2014 backpacking apparel line

August 28, 2013

New technologies including DriCanvas, stretch down, and silicone-treated nylon blend with advanced designs and real performance

BOULDER, COLO. (For Immediate Release) – Sierra Designs is reestablishing their position as a pinnacle outdoor brand with the introduction of a completely new line of outdoor apparel designed specifically to perform with a pack on while delivering uncommon fit and style. With new technologies including DriCanvas, stretch down, and silicone-treated nylon, this new line is designed to outperform any backpacking apparel currently available.

Designed by backpackers for backpackers, each piece is engineered for backpack compatibility with features such as strategically placed seams, pockets, and vents. Advanced materials enhance mobility while shedding wind and cold, keeping you warmer and drier inside and out. With a modern fit, refined color palette, subdued logo placement, and abundant style, this line is unlike any other performance apparel offering.

“We’ve come to settle for mediocre performance in apparel, including waterproof jackets and pants that don’t breathe, fit like Hefty bags, and do more to advertise a brand than actually keep you protected from the weather,” says Michael Glavin, VP and Brand Manager for Sierra Designs. “When we started recreating Sierra Design apparel, we wanted to make a real difference in the way backpackers stay warm, dry, and protected in the backcountry. We’re proud of what we’ve created and feel this line is both better and different than anything that has come before.”

Broken down into four distinct categories including Trailwear, Windwear, Rainwear, and Insulation, the 2014 apparel line has a lightweight solution for just about any outdoor situation.

Trailwear is the foundation of the Sierra Designs apparel collection, offering all the basics for a day or weeks on the trail. Custom knit fabrics provide high air permeability for cooling and anti-pill characteristics for long-lasting good looks. Collars are designed for performance, providing additional warmth or cooling depending on your needs while seamless backpack touch-points are chafe-free. Skirts, pants, and shorts are all offered in a choice of water-resistant, quick drying DriCanvas or waterproof silicone-treated nylon.

The Windwear collection is ready to take the edge off even the stiffest breeze. With ultralight nylon and softshell options, these jackets blend water resistance with excellent breathability to keep you protected and dry inside and out. Stretch fabrics add mobility while pack compatibility makes these jackets extra comfortable while wearing a pack.

When the weather gets wet, Sierra Designs has a complete collection of tops and bottoms to keep you dry and comfortable. The extra-long Pack Trench keeps hips protected while a unique, pack belt-compatible vent keeps you cool and won’t bunch up under a hip belt. For extra mobility in wet weather, the Stretch Rain Jacket delivers rain protection and freedom of movement. The hybrid All-Weather Pant blends breathability around the hips with serious rain protection in the legs for a perfect blend of ventilation and waterproofness. Match the All-Weather Pant with the Pack Trench for ultimate protection and comfort.

Combining the comfort and mobility of stretch fabric with the go-anywhere performance of DriDown™, the 800-fill Stretch DriDown™ Hoody represents the next generation in backcountry warmth and performance. Made with a unique, down-proof stretch fabric, this jacket allows for previously unheard-of flexibility from an insulated jacket. Smart stitch patterns allow the Stretch DriDown™ Hoody to move easily in any direction.

The entire Sierra Designs apparel collection will debut at the Outdoor Retailer Trade Show in Salt Lake City, July 31st to August 3rd in the Sierra Designs booth #28017. For more information, please email scott.kaier@americanrec.com.
